In a story from AFP posted on Yahoo, the future of the mobile phone is discussed. The future of the cell phone, of course, is that it won’t be just a phone at all. In fact, the mobile devices that people will eventually carry around with them will be used for telephone calls only a small fraction of the time. They’ll also be cameras, video cameras, portable computers, personal organizers, mp3 players, video players, and probably even TVs. They’ll be MoDevices, not just phones.

For vloggers, this will be a very good thing, of course. Mobile vlogging, or movlogging, should be very big, even bigger than text moblogging. Take a video and post it right away. Or even stream it live. A live vlog could be interesting, provided it was used effectively. I don’t think we want to watch people walk through the grocery store, or get on and off a bus. Though possibly we could. It might be especially interesting to see a snippet of life in a different part of the world happening live. Unlike those eternally boring live cams that sit on the top of a building and take video of anonymous traffic, live vlogs would give us life up close and personal as it happens.

Live movlogging would be interesting, but maybe overboard as well. People already complain about too many cameras around in public places. When every other person walking down the street has a camera, there will be nowhere to hide. I forget the number exactly, but I’ve heard somewhere that the average American is already on camera about 9 times a day (maybe it was more). Walk by an ATM machine - you’re on camera. Go into a convenience story - you’re on camera. Live movlogging will only exacerbate that exponentially.
