After Loads of Complaints, YouTube Updates Comment System

YouTube Comment SystemAfter constant complaints from its users, YouTube has just announced that it has fixed some of the problems with its comment system.

Some of the upgrading includes:

- The “View All Comments” option has been returned to the way it was before, showing comments from oldest to newest.

- Problems with links in e-mail notifications to users have been sorted out (or at least things are “being improved” in YouTube’s words).

- A promise “in the near future” to allow vloggers to turn comment ratings on or off for the vlogs they upload.

In their message to users, YouTube also took the time to remind them of the following:

Remember: you can choose which comments you want displayed, based on their overall ratings, on all video Watch pages. You can always choose to show all comments regardless of their ratings. Just use the pulldown menu near the comments section on the Watch page.

Although these things may be an improvement for YouTube vloggers, the persistent problem of comment spam and trolling still exists. While much of the YouTube comment spam and trolling simply comes from other users looking for attention, until they address the problem head-on with the likes of outright banning, it will most likely continue.

My favorite line from the YouTube announcement was the following:

And, as always, thanks for speaking up and letting us know your candid thoughts.

Of course “candid” — in YouTube-speak — means expressing your complaint in the vilest, most obscene way possible.

My guess is no one will get the hint.
